A surprise Gift for the Swiss

With Three unexpected points against one of the top contenders of the world cup 2010, Switzerland got the best opening in the world cup. Midfielder Gelson Fernandes scored the sole goal of the Group H match against Spain last night. Spain dominated the play with 63% ball possession but were unable to make an opening in the strong fortress like defense of Switzerland. The Swiss Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio was outstanding. The Swiss team focused on the ball and waited for the counter attack which they could produce in the second half.

"I'm very happy to see a strong performance. I have a feeling of great satisfaction said the Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. "It's an excellent start and exactly what we needed. "I am fully aware we made history and that it'll go down in the history books as the first time Switzerland has beaten Spain, but there's a first time for everything," he said. We'll now go into the Chile match with resolve and a great deal of self-confidence which we need to tackle the more difficult challenges ahead."Hitzfield added.
