ഒരു ചെറു പുഞ്ചിരി

വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശേഷം ഞാന്‍ ആ പഴയ ലൈബ്രറിയുടെ മുന്നിലാണ്. ആ മുഗള്‍ ശൈലിക്കോ, മൂടി നില്‍ക്കുന്ന മരങ്ങള്‍ക്കോ മറീനയില്‍ നിന്ന് വരുന്ന കാറ്റിനോ ഒരു മാറ്റവുമില്ല. ഓരോ ഷെല്‍ഫും കയറി ഇറങ്ങി അലക്ഷ്യമായി പുസ്തകതാളുകള്‍ മറിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ കിട്ടുന്ന അനുഭൂതി പറഞ്ഞറിയിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയില്ല.

ഓര്‍മയുടെ താളുകള്‍ മറിക്കുകയാണ്. സന്ധ്യയുടെ നിറങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മാറ്റമൊന്നുമില്ല.കിരണങ്ങള്‍ പൊടിപടലങ്ങളില്‍ തട്ടി മേഘപാളികളില്‍ ആഴ്ന്നിറങ്ങി ഹോളി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.അത്രയും നേരം കളിച്ചു ചിരിച്ചു നടന്ന എനിക്ക് പെട്ടെന്ന് ദുഖത്തിന്റെ മാനം കൈവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. മുഗള്‍ പാളികള്‍ക്ക്‌ കീഴില്‍ പൌള്‍ ബൌല്സിന്റെ "ദി ഷെല്‍ട്ടര്‍ ഓഫ് ദി സ്ക്യെ" മറിച്ചു നോക്കി. വായന മുറുകുന്തോറും പിന്നെയും വയിക്കനാഗ്രഹം.ഒരു കൊലുസിന്റെ കൊഞ്ചല്‍ കെട്ട് ഞാന്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കി. ഒരു ലിറ്റില്‍  റെഡ് രയ്ടിംഗ് ഹൂദ്‌ എന്നെ നോക്കി പുഞ്ചിരി തൂകുന്നു. മിഥ്യയുടെ വാതിലുകള്‍ക്കപ്പുരം വര്‍ണ്ണങ്ങള്‍ വാരി വിതറാന്‍ ഈ ഒരു ചെറു ചിരി തന്നെ ധാരാളം.പുറത്തിറങ്ങി കതിരെശന്റെ ഫില്‍റ്റെര്‍ കാപ്പി ചുണ്ടോടടുപ്പിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഒരു ദിവസത്തിന്റെ പൂര്‍ണത ലഭിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. എല്ലാം ചേര്‍ന്നതാണ് ജീവിതം എന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ ഒരു ദിവസം തന്നെ ധാരാളം. 

ഇന്ന് ഈ ലൈബ്രറിയുടെ മുന്നില്‍ നിന്ന് കതിരെശന്റെ കാപ്പി കുടിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ എന്‍റെ കണ്ണുകള്‍ ആ പഴയ 5 വയസ്സുകാരിയെ തിരയുകയായിരുന്നു. കിരന്നങ്ങല്‍ക്കപുറത്തു നിന്നും അവള്‍ എന്നെ നോക്ക് പുന്ജിരിക്കുനത് എനിക്ക് കാണാമായിരുന്നു.

സൂര്യന്‍ മറ നീക്കി പുറത്തു വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. മഴക്കാലം പലര്‍ക്കും ഒരു ശാപ സമയമാണ്. എല്ലാ മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്കും ഒരു പുത്തന്‍ ഉണര്‍വുണ്ടായതു പോലെ. അവരും മനുഷ്യരല്ലേ.പുതിയ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിലെക്കുള്ള മാറ്റം പോലെയാണ് ഓരോ കാലാവസ്ഥയും. എനിക്ക് ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും ലകഷ്യങ്ങളും ഉണ്ട്.അല്ലെങ്കിലം സ്ഥായിയായ ഒരവസ്ഥ ആരാണിഷ്ടപെടുക.


സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് സ്ഥിരതയില്ല എന്നാലും സ്വപ്നം കാണുവനാന്നിഷ്ടം.


ഞാന്‍ ഇപ്പോഴും ഒറ്റയ്ക്കാണ് എന്നാല്‍ അത്ര ഒറ്റപെടല്‍ ഇല്ല. കണ്ടില്ലെന്നു നടിക്കാന്‍ എളുപ്പമാണ്, ഉറക്കത്തില്‍ നടക്കുന്നത് പോലെ പക്ഷെ പല മിഥ്യകളില്‍ നിന്നും പുറത്തു വരാന്‍  നടന്നു പഠിച്ചേ തീരു. കുറച്ചു ദൂരത്തേക്കു മാത്രം ജീവിതം പരന്നതായിരിക്കും ,പെട്ടെന്ന് പാത കഠിനവും ,വളവുകള്‍ ഉള്ളതും, കുഴികള്‍ നിറഞ്ഞതുമായി തീരും...അപ്പോളേക്കും നമ്മള്‍ നടക്കാന്‍ പഠിച്ചിരിക്കും.


ഈ വഴികളിലൂടെ നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ എന്‍റെ മനസ്സ് ഒഴിഞ്ഞ കീശ പോലെയായിരിക്കും. ഈ പാലത്തിനു മുകളില്‍ മരങ്ങളുടെ ചില്ലകള്‍ കെട്ട് പിണഞ്ഞു ശബ്ദമുണ്ടാക്കുനത് കേള്‍ക്കാം. ഈ പാലം കടന്നു കഴിയുമ്പോള്‍ ജീവിതം പുതിയോരിടതെതി നിന്നിരിക്കും.നിമിഷങ്ങള്‍ കോര്‍ത്തിണക്കിയ ഒരു ശ്രുംഖല അവിടെ കാണാം.ഒരു പുതിയ ജീവിതതിനെകുറിച്ചു ചിന്തികുന്നതിനെക്കാള്‍ ഭേദമായിരിക്കും ഒരു നിമിഷം നല്‍കുന്ന മാറ്റത്തിനായി കാത്തിരിക്കുക. 


ഓര്‍മകള്‍ക്ക് സ്ഥിരതിയില്ല പക്ഷെ ഓര്‍ക്കാനാണഷ്ട്ടം. . 


അതെന്തായാലും അന്നത്തെ സുര്യനെ പോലെ ശോഭിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കണം, അതിന്റെ കിരണങ്ങള്‍ പോലെ പായുവാന്‍ കഴിയണം. ഈ വാക്കുകള്‍ പോലും സ്ഥായിയല്ല...ഈ പാത പോലും

Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali named Brian Lara as the best batsman in the world, just a day after Australian paceman Glenn McGrath rated the West Indies legend a rung higher than Sachin Tendulkar. Lara's match-winning performance of 153 not out against Australia in Bridgetown, Barbados in 1999 has been rated by Wisden as the second best batting performance in the history of Test cricket, next only to the 270 runs scored by Sir Donald Bradman in The Ashes test match of 1937.Muttiah Muralitharan, rated as the greatest Test match bowler ever by Wisden Cricketers' Almanack,and the highest wicket-taker in bothTest cricket and in One Day Internationals(ODIs), has hailed Lara as his toughest opponent among all batsmen in the world. Brian lara is one of the best finisher in all formats. Lara has great batting class compared to any batsman in cricket and he can over play his natural game in any situation.I have watched him play right from the 90's when Dish Antenna was introduced to our premises. I admire his class.I admire and enjoy those classic songs his bat produces. You can see every one of those classic cricket shots while he is at the pitch.Oh he is such a joy to watch. A living Encyclopedia for the youngsters who love classic cricket. 

A surprise Gift for the Swiss

With Three unexpected points against one of the top contenders of the world cup 2010, Switzerland got the best opening in the world cup. Midfielder Gelson Fernandes scored the sole goal of the Group H match against Spain last night. Spain dominated the play with 63% ball possession but were unable to make an opening in the strong fortress like defense of Switzerland. The Swiss Goalkeeper Diego Benaglio was outstanding. The Swiss team focused on the ball and waited for the counter attack which they could produce in the second half.

"I'm very happy to see a strong performance. I have a feeling of great satisfaction said the Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. "It's an excellent start and exactly what we needed. "I am fully aware we made history and that it'll go down in the history books as the first time Switzerland has beaten Spain, but there's a first time for everything," he said. Some remarkable observations about the Growth and the associated problems of Thiruvananthapuram City

The process of urbanization and population pressure leads to an unplanned growth in cities, the deterioration of the living conditions and result in the worsening of the environmental scenario. City growth has caused problems since early times, especially the supply of food and water and the disposal of effluents.

Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of Kerala state and also the headquarters of Thiruvananthapuram district. The beauty of the city, from the very first days of its modern era development, has been its most remarkable attribute, and it remains to this day the cornerstone of its economy, its international reputation and the feeling of well being of its residents. The past decade has seen a number of changes in the beauty of the city unparalleled both in their degree and in their interactability. Past few years saw a tremendous growth in the city, which has had the direct effect on turning natural hillsides into building sites, sometimes esthetically benign effects but sometimes with detrimental effects. Large expanses of the city and the surrounding areas open spaces have come to be covered with tract homes and commercial shopping strips. The growth has brought widened streets, increased concentrations of litter, more wear and tear and greater amounts of graffiti.

The multiplication of tertiary employment provides the main reason for the growth of the city during the past few decades, for the new jobs attracts a flood of aspiring migrants to the town and create a virtually insatiable demand for office space and housing. When taken into account the past few decades it is worth noting that the land use in and around the city has undergone a severe change. Most of the low-lying paddy fields are converted for settlements. The city has grown in its size and the corporation limit has extended taking a good portion of the surrounding panchayats. The roads has become congested, the population pressure has increased. The increase of impervious surface in the upper slope and valley portion increased the surface runoff during rainy season and made the low-lying areas vulnerable for flooding. It has in turn aggravated the flood situation in the city.

The rate of urbanization is an important indicator of economic development and the phenomenon is pronounced throughout the world, be it the developed or the developing world. The city growth identification would help in regional planning for better infrastructure provision in an environmentally sound way. Geographic Information System is an useful tool in interpreting the changes with the help of visual reproduction of different information on maps, which makes it easier to comprehend, and analyse. The process of urbanization of the city was accompanied by a number of impacts that has worsened the environmental scenario. This unabated trend has increased pressure on the limited land available in the city. The growth of the city, no doubt contributes to the economic development of the state, but in a world where sustainable development has become such a debated chant the efforts should be coordinated towards maintaining a rich biological habitat in the city as it is significant in terms of the direct ecological benefits of enabling even the minute of the species to survive and to make the City a beautiful place worth living.

Highlights from my Paper on Plachimada

The masses of Plachimada, through their long endeavor has rightly shown beyond doubt that they are well against being the victims of modern colonization, by overwhelming the threat posed by the gigantic transnational corporation. Plachimada has gained regard at the International level as one of the most widely deliberated models of ‘Wars fought for water’. 

When the permission is granted to the Multinationals to suck the ground water sources the water will be in their control and there after the people have to pay for the water at a rate which the company decides. Ismail Seragaldin who was the Vice President of the World Bank in 1995 pointed out in one speech “ if the wars of this century is for Oil, it will be for Water in the next”. It makes all of us to believe that drinking water, indeed will become a scarce material in the world in the near future. Thus there emerges a situation where we all would be trapped in the web of the Multinational Corporations who are competing for the control and sales right of the fresh water sources. It is beyond our comprehension but it is the most scaring truth.

There emerges a situation where in we are forced to see the Giant Private Establishments, who only aim profit grasp our natural assets. Hence, it is the time for us to realize that such incivilities anywhere in this world should not be left unseen. The need of the hour thus is to lift our experiences in Plachimada at the Global level and make the Corporal Giants rethink themselves. The ‘Gods of Nature’ will definitely be happy seeing the efforts of the villagers of Plachimada to rescue the nature now having an upper hand on the Giant Multinational who once casted a shadow of calamity on them.
